FLUX CORES WIRE : SOREX SFC-308H

Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H)

Fabricating high-temperature stainless steel equipment—such as refinery catalytic crackers, power generation boilers, steam piping, and chemical pressure vessels—demands filler metals engineered for superior creep resistance and structural stability under extreme heat. The Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H) series from Thermatech offers exceptional metallurgical performance powered by Sorex SFC manufacturing standards.

Classified under AWS A5.22 E308HT1-1 / E308HT1-4, Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H) controls the carbon range precisely within 0.04% to 0.08% to ensure high creep rupture strength at operating temperatures exceeding 400ºC. Featuring a fast-freezing titania slag system, this Sorex SFC consumable supports stable, spray-like arc transfer across flat, vertical, and overhead welding positions. Designed for use with 100% CO2 or ArgonCO2 shielding gas blends, it delivers smooth, spatter-free weld beads with self-peeling slag that consistently pass 100% radiographic non-destructive testing (NDT).

Technical Advantages of Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H)

Engineered for high-efficiency stainless steel fabrication and severe thermal service environments, this product line offers distinct operational benefits:

  • Elevated Temperature Creep Resistance: Higher carbon chemistry provides robust creep strength and resistance to thermal degradation in high-heat piping and pressure vessels.
  • Superior All-Position Arc Stability: Fast-freezing slag enables high-speed vertical-up and overhead welding with uniform bead contours and minimal edge undercut.
  • High Travel Speeds & Metal Deposition: Sorex SFC flux-cored technology delivers significantly higher deposition rates than conventional TIG (GTAW) or solid MIG wires, drastically reducing labor hours.
  • Self-Detaching Slag Layer: Slag peels away effortlessly upon cooling, leaving a clean, bright stainless bead profile with minimal post-weld grinding and joint preparation.

DESCRIPTION :
SFC-308H is a rutile flux cored tubular wire for all positional welding using pure CO2 or Argon CO2 mixed shielding gas.
It performs with smooth arc transfer, self-releasing slag, low spatter level, fine ripple and good intergranular
corrosion resistance.

APPLICATIONS :
Suitable for welding 18%Cr-8%Ni stainless steels. Typical applications include corrosion resistance overlay,
joining of common austenitic stainless steel types 301, 302, 304 stabilised 321, CF-8 and CF-3.

NOTE ON USAGE :
1. Use DC (+) polarity.
2. Maintain a higher welding speed in order to get enough penetration in the down hand welding position.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H)

Q: Why is Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H) preferred for high-temperature stainless steel applications?

A: Gas Shielded Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire (SFC-308H) has a controlled carbon content (0.04%–0.08%), which provides significantly higher creep strength and thermal resistance at elevated service temperatures compared to standard 308 or low-carbon 308L wires.

Q: Which shielding gas should be used with this Sorex SFC consumable?

A: This Sorex SFC consumable performs excellently with 100% CO₂ gas for deep penetration and cost efficiency. However, using an 80% Argon / 20% CO₂ mixture yields an even smoother spray arc transfer, lower spatter levels, and superior bead appearance.
